Relenza
Data from the World Health Organization's Global Influenza Surveillance
Network indicate that the H5N1 strains that have been circulating are susceptible
to 2 neuraminidase inhibitor antiviral drugs approved to treat human influenza
infections in some countries: oseltamivir (sold as Tamiflu, available as
capsules or an oral suspension) and zanamivir (sold as Relenza, only available
in an inhaled form).
In order to establish that Relenza™ is effective in humans infected with
bird flu, clinical data from humans will be needed.
